SMALL FLEET BUYER GUIDE
How to choose courier software for a small business
Small courier companies do not need a long feature checklist. They need a clear answer to a daily question: where is the work, who owns the next step, and what still needs to be closed before the day ends?
Start with the daily route
Look for a system that can bring in package work, plan multi-driver routes with a depot start and return, assign stops and show the route status without making the dispatcher reconstruct the day from messages.
Make the driver workflow easy to explain
Driver status, proof of delivery and exception capture should support the route rather than create a second office job. Ask to see what happens when a stop succeeds, fails, needs another attempt or needs a customer problem recorded.
Keep customer problems and COD visible
A small team feels every missed handoff. The software should give the dispatcher a visible next action for customer problems and a clear place to review COD tracking at closeout.
Ask how the numbers become useful
Margin per delivery is more useful than a monthly total alone. Ask how rate cards, delivery costs and route context can be reviewed together, and keep any sample numbers clearly labelled as examples.
Use a low-risk starting point
Choose one route or one driver, import a controlled CSV, invite the people who actually close the day, and agree what “better” means before expanding. Dispatchly’s €99/month Starter figure is planned discussion copy and may change.
See the workflow on one route.
Dispatchly is early-access software for small courier fleets. Bring one route or one operational problem.
